If the first week of high school volleyball action around the Mountain State was an indicator of how exciting the 2007 season will be, fans had better hold on tight. For the first time in two seasons there's a new #1 in class AAA as Parkersburg South knocked off George Washington in the finals of the Beckley Invitational. That was enough to win the respect needed to garnish this week's #1 spot for a upstart South squad. The loss, coupled with other tight games at the Invitational, dropped GW to #3 in class AAA.
Magnolia showed the state a lot of spunk in AA as the Blue Eagles shocked class AAA power Musselman 2-1 at the Morgantown Invitational Saturday. Magnolia then dropped the final match to 2006 state runner-up Oak Glen. Those results moved Oak Glen to #2 and Magnolia to #3 in class AA behind #1 Tyler Consolidated.
In class A Wirt County remained #1 while a young Beckley Christian weighed in at #2.
